BAAQMD Drops Fireplace Ban, Adopts Disclosure: The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) has officially dropped its proposal to ban wood-burning fireplaces at the point of sale. Instead, the Air Quality Board unanimously ruled wood-burning heating devices, including those certified by the federal Environmental Protection Agency as low emission, will not be permitted in new homes built after Nov. 1, 2016.
The Board also adopted a requirement that the harmful nature of wood smoke be disclosed at the time of sale of a home or rental of a residential property. The new disclosure will be required as of June 1, 2016.
